Breastfeeding: Making it Work

Breastfeeding: Making it Work

On 2 August 2017, during the World Breastfeeding Week, young employees of Ucell Company participated in an interactive session to discuss the wonders of breastfeeding.
Organized by UNICEF and Ucell, experts from the Ministry of Health presented some critical facts about how breastfeeding saves lives, and answered many queries of the participants.
“The World Breastfeeding Week is an occasion that calls on everyone – decision-makers, activists, celebrities, corporate houses, mothers, and fathers – all to come together to join the important cause, and support the important practice of breastfeeding,” said Atul Kumar, Chief of Communication, UNICEF in Uzbekistan in his opening remarks. “Today’s event is one small example how Ucell works with UNICEF in achieving big goals, and how together we can ensure better conditions for breastfeeding mothers at work, and promote the critical practice among millions of Ucell’s customers,” he added.
Since 2016, UNICEF and Ucell pioneered a public-private partnership to improve well-being of women and children in Uzbekistan.
“Breastfeeding gives babies their best start in life and benefits the mother. If an employer gives women appropriate facilities and breaks to breastfeed or express milk, they are more likely to return to work as planned and the employer retains capable staff,” said Nigar Huseinzade, Director of HR and Admin, Ucell Company.
The event highlighted how breastfeeding can nurture national economies. Increased rates of breastfeeding can improve a country’s prosperity by lowering healthcare costs and producing stronger, more capable workforces. In achieving the global development goals, for all of which breastfeeding is a universal contributor, the role of the private sector can never be overstated.
“Thank you so much for this useful session, it is a very good idea to organize this kind of events for the young working teams,” said Kamila Kurmakaeva, Ucell staff member. “I will be a mother in the future, and the information I have learned today will come in very handy soon,” she concluded.
The theme of this year’s World Breastfeeding Week is “Sustaining Breastfeeding Together”. Breastfeeding is not just one woman’s job. By the end of the event, all participants agreed that everyone must work together to support breastfeeding for a more sustainable future.
