Lately a special type of fraud -illegal termination of international telephone traffic to bypass the legislation becomes increasingly common throughout the world including Uzbekistan. . The essence of fraud is to use illegal route for transmitting international telephone connections by fraudsters. In other words, the call is not carried out through the channels of the operator, but through specially connected equipment. At the same time, it causes significant damage to the operator and subscriber, who pays for the communication, but does not receive the proper quality of service.
The danger of this type of fraud is also the fact that the ordinary citizens are involved in such unlawful activities. The fraudsters buy from individuals or legal entities their SIM-cards and use them for illegal traffic termination.
The risk of such transactions is that:
Firstly, a subscriber intentionally violates the terms of the contractor services concluded with the mobile operator, which entails its termination.
Secondly, a subscriber undertakes responsibility for timely payment of the result indebting mobile numbers, issued on his/her name and used by fraudsters. In such cases, the amount of debt can significantly exceed the amount of compensation, offered by fraudsters for the usage of his/her mobile numbers.
Thirdly, the person who sold SIM-card to subscriber, depending on the size of the remuneration received or the extent of damage caused in a result of fraudsters’ illegal activity may be held criminally or administratively liable for illegal business activities and complicity in a fraud.
To avoid such situations, we strongly recommend you under any circumstances do not pass the SIM-card registered on your name to third person and periodically check in Company offices the amount of mobile numbers registered on your name.
If you know that you get an incoming call from overseas, and your phone displays mobile number of the local operator, it is a clear sign of the illegal termination. Thus, you will be able to protect your rights to receive a quality communication services and to help the operator in suppressions of fraudsters’ actions.
